Admire the Natural Beauty of Rastoke

Blessed with a dramatically beautiful setting, Rastoke is a small village just north of the town of Slunj where the Korana and Slunjcica rivers meet and form thundering waterfalls and flowing cascades.

Explore the Cerovac Caves

Disclaimer: Closed until the end of 2020 while it undergoes a major makeover! The Cerovac Caves will be closed Located 4 km southwest of Gračac, the Cerovac Caves are the largest cave complex in the country and boast a 3-tier complex including the Lower Cave, Middle Cave, and Upper Cave. 

Here, you’ll have a chance to see remains of the cave bears, as well as bronze axes used by Pleistocene cave bear hunters. To make the most out of your Croatia road trip, professionally guided tours in the Upper and Lower caves are available and last just over an hour.

After you purchase the tickets for the tour at a souvenir stand, take a short forest walk to the gated entrance. You’ll meet the local guide who is really knowledgeable and will tell you everything there is to know about the formation of these magnificent structures

Admire the cave ornaments and experience the wealth of the underground world of Velebit Nature Park. Keep in mind that the trail in and outside the cave is slippery, so it’s recommended to wear shoes with good grip. As for the temperature inside the caves, it ranges from 5°C to 8°C.

Admire Knin Fortress

The next stop on your Croatia road trip is the city of Knin. Located between Bosnia and Dalmatia, this city was the capital of the medieval Kingdom of Croatia in the 11th century and houses one of the largest fortifications in the country, the impressive Knin fortress.

This living monument of culture boasts a couple of exhibition galleries, a museum, and a nice restaurant. The defensive walls outside are about 2 km long and the fortress itself is preserved in all its parts, which makes it a cool destination to visit on your Croatia itinerary. 

The city of Knin is surrounded by several points of attraction. You can visit the famous Manojlovac waterfall, the tallest waterfall in the Krka National Park, or check out the Krcic River and admire its crystal clear water. There is also the archaeological site of Burnum Ruins, which used to be an ancient Roman military camp.
